My Life: Soli Deo Gloria

"For I know the plans I have for you," declares the LORD, "plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. Then you will call upon me and come and pray to me, and I will listen to you. You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart." ~Jeremiah 29:11-13

Various Happenings

The election results were announced yesterday. I am the Secretary of the Junior Class for Student Senate. YEAH! I'm excited because our class runs prom for next year as well as many other events(homecoming, christmas stuff, etc.). I really wanted this position, so was thrilled when I heard the results(so thrilled that I was jumping up and down during my fourth hour class). And congrats to Ben Sawyer, who is the official Vice-President of the Sophomore class!! Next year will be awesome!

Dave Rudd came to talk to my Frist Priority group today. I asked him to talk about how to show you are a follower of Christ, not just a luke-warm Christian. I think that's a big issue at my school(see my previous posts). I think Dave did a great job with his coffee/Mountain Dew illustration. I hope the group really takes to heart what he said.

I have exams in a couple of weeks, so I'm just wrapping up with projects, tests, papers, etc. FUN TIMES!

Eloquent Poets

Eloquent Poets( www.ourpoems.blogspot.com ) has finally come out of hibernation. I wrote a poem on the bus ride home from Winter Retreat this past year. I didn't really like some of the wording, so I just forgot about it. Since then I've had random lines pop into my head that sounded good for a poem, so I wrote them down, hoping to use them someday. I was reading through my journal the other day and found the poem and thought I could revise some things and post it. So, I took some of those random lines I collected and put those in the poem. Please check out the blog! There are several poems written by my fellow Lunch Ladies(Laura and Elaina(long story)) and I. Feel free to comment on this blog or Eloquent Poets. Elaina and Laura- I thought something had to be done about the blog. We haven't posted since February!

Quick Note

I’m doing science research right now, so I have to make this short. Elections for next year’s Student Senate are at lunch today. I’m running for class secretary. Even though I was secretary this past year, I’m still nervous because I’m running against two other girls. Please pray for me!

The Change Inside of Me....

I've really been thinking about what it means to be a christian. Who am I in Christ? By going to a public school and being involved in First Priority, I can really see the difference between people who are "christians" and people who are born-again believers in Jesus Christ. I think this is the biggest struggle for me as a christian at G.H.H.S.- seeing students who come to First Priority every week and get involved, but then walk out into the hall and swear, gossip, etc. I'm not trying to be down on the group, but I feel that's a problem at any school or church, christian or public. We are suppose to be different than our non-christian friends. The difference they see in us should be evident in our actions and words.

This has caused me to evaluate myself as a follower of Christ. Can my peers clearly see that there is something special in me? Can they see that I am different than the rest of the students? I often wonder if my actions and words really DO show that I am different. I don't swear or talk in a provocative manner, which is even slightly different than my close friends at school. I try so hard to dress modestly so I don't get the attention that other girls long for. I just wonder if this is enough? Are the little changes that I make everyday enough to show others that I have a different, bigger purpose for my life? I realize I am a human being and I know I will stumble, but I question whether or not I am really showing people what it means to be a true christian. I think people know that I am a christian because of the comments I receive and my basic overall reputation, but I hope that I am really showing them who Christ is and using my opportunities to tell them about Him. I think the fact that I'm questioning this in the first place means I'm probably not taking things to the next level. I tend to be very sarcastic and outgoing at times and I hope people don't take that in a negative way. I want to show them that it is AWESOME to have a relationship with Christ. I want to show them that being a christian doesn't mean that you can't have any fun, but rather rejoice because you have someone who will NEVER leave you and will LOVE you forever. I want to show them that I am a changed person because I have accepted Christ and His love has transformed me... but I am doing this? Do they see the change?

God Bless America

President Sarah E. Keur
Originally uploaded by kickeur77.
Today in Adv. Amer. Lit., we were suppose to take our final test on the Grapes of Wrath that would cover the entire book. So, seeing as I had my usual busy weekend, I looked up cliff notes on the internet at 11:00 last night (I know- I'm bad). As I was frantically reading through four pages of notes of the last several chapters and getting last minute details of each chapter from my friend, Rachael informs me that 5th hour didn't have to take the test today. This gave me great hope (and great disappointment because I had just wasted my precious lunch hour reading those darn notes) for my next hour!!

Instead of taking the test, Mr. Christian had us take out a half sheet of paper and number to 6. He asked us several questions pertaining to people in our class, like "Name a boy that is wearing glasses" or "name the most annoying girl" and "name a boy that will own a trailor and dress in a robe and pink, fuzzy bunny slippers". He asked us the final question, "Name the girl who will be the future President of America". Naturally, I wrote down Martha Coe because she is VERY politally aware.

When he was going through the answers (yes, believe it or not, these were for a grade), he came to the last question. I knew I was going to get it right with Martha as my answer. Mr. Christian said, "...and the future President of America is..." (people were pointing at both me and Martha and yelling our names) "Keur (Mr. Christian calls my by my last name-it's much more interesting than "Sarah" I guess)". I was surprised seeing as I am FAR from being "politically in-tune" with this world. Politics can get too messy sometimes, yet I'm secretary on Student Senate- go figure! Mr. Christian went on say that I would be a well-loved politician because I "never say anything negative to people and I am outspoken". I, personally, don't think that I would get many votes for my ability to run the country, though. I'd probably get into some type of trouble without knowing what went wrong. Could you imagine another Nixon?

Wow, President Sarah E. Keur. That has a nice ring to it.

I will be running for President in 2111 (probably as a hologram) with my Vice President, Pedro Sanchez. Remember: A vote for Sarah is a vote for Pedro.

You are now entering enemy territory...

Yesterday at lunch, my friends and I were talking about what we were going to do for our MUCH NEEDED half day (thank goodness for teacher inservices). There was the usual, "I'll probably just stay home and read" or "Since I have my license now, I can go out to lunch somewhere" or the ever-popular "I don't know". Rachael Crevier (it's french) looked at me and asked, "So Sarah, what are YOU doing?" I reluctantly replied, "Steve and I are going to visit some friends at Mona Shores." For I feared the negative responses from my peers referring to my going to our rival school. But I thought to myself I want to go visit my friends and have fun and see the school, so it doesn't matter that M.S. is our rival.(note: The above dialog, etc. is a bit more over-dramatic, but hey that's me)

Getting to Shores(as the "Sailors"(Shore-ians?(people who go to M.S.H.S.))call the school) was easy- figuring out where to park was another story. I went in the first entrance and saw that it was the staff parking lot, so I turned around and went back to the front of the building and parked in the visitor parking lot (according to the signs). Then, Steve and I went in the main entrance. I think we were suppose to get passes in order to roam around the school, but I decided to bypass that (oops). Let me just say, that school is confusing. It's like walking through a never-ending labyrinth. Thank goodness for SIGNS!!! We just followed them until we got the to infamous "glass hallway" and found the cafeteria.

Steve and I talked with John, Andrew, Ryan, David, and Mrs. Enck. I also talked with Breanna, Trisha, and Leanne. Steve and I walked around the science and math wing. We tried to get the attention of Andrew in his science class, but he must have been so into his studies that he just didn't bother to look up from his computer. What an overachiever!

Overall, the Mona Shores High School lunch experience was fun, new, and rather perplexing. All I can say is... major brownie points to the person who thought of putting up those big blue signs!!

Band Lists and Dr. Seuss

"Oh the thinks you can think..."

This chorus has been lingering throughout my head ever since I saw Seussical last night. I always have some song in my head. I'll be sitting in math class and I'll break out with an off-key rendition of "Jesus Freak" or "Diverse City". In this case, it's a Seuss song and I have the same line(see above)going over and over in my head. That can be quite annoying. Anyway, Seussical can be summed up as this: tons of energy and...awesome! To the Spring Lake Thespians(I guess I'm kind of talking to air here)- I commend you on an enthusiastic performance.

Big News: After a prolonged process, Mr. Gregory Maynard has posted the band lists for the 2005-2006 school year. I'm certainly happy that he finally decided to post these because I know of numerous people that were getting ready to bust down his doors or T.P. his rather large motorcycle in order see the results. "Band Geeks" started waiting outside the band room doors at 12:00 and staring at Maynard hoping that he would catch sight of their angry faces and post the lists earlier than the scheduled 12:26. Finally, he posted the lists and I scanned each one, hoping to find my name under the Symphic Wind Ensemble. To my great astonishment, there it was! With an enormous smile plastered across my face, I counted down the flute list to see what chair I would be in. Sixth Chair!!! Yes, I was to be sixth chair in the top band next school year!!

That's my exciting news! ok bye.
