Fremont: Relaxation with my G-parents
I love visiting my grandparents. I always get to relax- just get away from my busy life. I just finished my dinner and I sat on the couch. I never realized how nice it is to just sit there without having to worry about running here or there. I've been sitting on their back porch reading. They don't have air conditioning, so I like to sit out there and feel the breeze- the natural air.
I spent most of my time today at their church- Faith Baptist. It is so different than Calvary, but I like going there every so often and experiencing the more traditional way of "doing church". They have sunday school and one service after that and then a night service. They have 100 people in their actual service on a good day. They sing 4 to 8 verses of hymns with, get this, just a piano. No electric guitars or drums.
I went to the teen sunday school and there were about 10 to 12 kids for both their middle school and high school. When I walked into the room I was reminded of the churches in Thailand because the girls were seated on one side and the guys on the other. Everyone was really friendly. The nice thing was that many of them remembered me from the previous times I've visited(an advantage of visiting a smaller church).
July is Missionary Month at Faith Baptist Church. They had the Dunn Family talk to us today about their ministry in Brazil. They live right along the Amazon and run Camp Maranatha for kids that live in the area. They also have many construction and church-planting ministries. I had the opportunity to talk to Mike Dunn about the ministries and shared my interest in missions and my future plans. He told me that I could come down to help them teach and work with the camp. I'm hoping this could be a possible trip for me in the future. The Dunn's ministries sound incredible. Another advantage of going to a small church: I get to really talk to the missionaries. It was awesome!
I love coming up here and spending time with my grandparents. My grandma is always concerned that I'll be too bored because "there's nothing to do in Fremont". I always tell her that it's okay because it's nice to do nothing for a change. We take walks in the field across the street(they live across from the Gerber plant), I look at old pictures, read, go downtown, and ALWAYS eat more than I need to(I love how grandparents don't quite grasp the concept of "being too full"). I get my own little bed in their attic-like upstairs with a single fan blowing on me all night. Now that I'm thinking about it, the whole sleeping situation is actually quite similar to Chicago.
I'll be back on Tuesday. Back to my "normal" life.

Me too! Working in Brazil with the kids sounds like fun.
Doing nothing sounds really great right about now. We all missed you in church today(or yesterday morning)(It's 1:21am).
Enjoy the rest of your time in Fremont!
